About Meryl

Meryl, a longtime Evergreen resident and former owner of The Evergreen Gallery, started creating functional pottery in 1972.  It started as a curiosity and quickly became a passion.

The initial attraction to making functional wheel thrown ceramics started by being made in  stoneware clay. Making useful and artful pots has always been the goal.  The eventual and permanent decision to working with porcelain as the clay came after a few years learning the craft.  The porcelain canvas was a deliberate directional change due to the seductive delicacy but strength of the material.  This created endless opportunities to showcase color, texture, translucency, artful design and lots experimentation.  The one of a kind white clay canvases are designed with multiple brush strokes on top of layered glazes that are gas reduction fired.  Most often, the end results are spontaneous but have a sense of something familiar.  Most recently, the application of a pebble like texture band is inspired by the landscape of Colorado.

Being raised in a family of artists and business people was the natural foundation of perfect influences to teach art, create art and enjoy selling the art of many other artists.  In addition, having the best pottery mentors gave the support to grow and learn this challenging craft.  I am so grateful for each step taken on this path.

Her work has been exhibited and received awards in many of the most prestigious fine arts and craft shows in Colorado. Meryl now resides in Golden, Colorado with her husband Pete.

Meryl is a member of the Evergreen Artists' Association.
